WÖRNER – Textil & Technik ⎪ Technische Gestricke aus Deutschland
At WÖRNER, sustainability is not a marketing promise—it is an integral part of the way we do business. As a family-owned company, we take a long-term approach, making decisions with consideration for the environment, natural resources, and the people who work with and alongside us.
Our mindset is shaped by our Swabian roots, with a strong focus on efficiency, quality, and respect for nature. We see sustainability not as an isolated goal, but as the combination of responsible manufacturing, conscious use of resources, and social commitment.
One of our key contributions to resource conservation lies in the way we manufacture our products. Thanks to advanced knitting technologies, many products are produced to shape directly on the knitting machine, often eliminating the need for cutting and additional assembly processes.
This not only reduces material consumption but also minimises the risk of errors and waste throughout the entire production process.
Sustainability is an integral part of our production. Since 2012, we have operated a photovoltaic system on the roof of our company building and have continuously expanded it. In 2022, a second, significantly larger system was added, supplying energy to our production halls and two heat pumps, among other applications. Today, we already cover more than half of our electricity demand with our own solar energy.
An energy audit identified additional potential for savings, which we have implemented in a targeted manner. Among other measures, the entire production lighting system was modernised and converted to energy-efficient solutions, resulting in further reductions in CO₂ emissions.
Our environmental management system is aligned with the requirements of DIN EN ISO 14001 and is continuously being further developed.

Our commitment extends beyond our production facilities. At our company site, we actively promote local biodiversity through initiatives such as insect-friendly perennial flower beds.
A special feature is our organically managed traditional orchard meadow, created and maintained by the company’s senior owner. During the apple harvest season, our employees are invited to help themselves to the fruit—a small but meaningful gesture that reflects our strong connection to the local community.
In 2020, we took an in-depth look at the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda. We carefully assessed which of these goals could be meaningfully and realistically applied to our business.
We see the Sustainable Development Goals as a framework for continuous improvement—environmentally, economically, and in our day-to-day operations.
